The Hurricanes flipped a player from one of Broward County’s premier football programs on Friday evening.

Donta Simpson, a three-star interior defensive lineman from Chaminade-Madonna in Hollywood, flipped from Maryland to Miami, announcing his decision on social media.

“Blessed and thankful to ALL through my journey!” Simpson wrote. “God’s timing is everything! I am officially 1000 (percent) committed to the Miami Hurricanes!”

Simpson is listed as the No. 83 defensive lineman and No. 766 player in the 2025 class. In addition to Miami and Maryland, he also held offers from Minnesota, N.C. State and SMU.

Simpson stands in at 6-4 and about 290 pounds. While committed to the Terrapins, he attended UM’s summer recruiting cookout and worked out for the coaching staff. The Hurricanes’ coaches came away from the workout with a positive impression and offered him a scholarship.

Simpson notched 43 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a pick-six for the Lions last year as they rolled to another state title.

Miami has made a habit out of recruiting players from Chaminade. In the last several years, they have signed players like JoJo Trader, Te’Cory Couch, Keontra Smith and Thad Franklin from the football powerhouse.

Simpson is the second defensive lineman in the Hurricanes’ class, joining edge rusher Herbert Scroggins.
