March 20, 2022: The Owls’ 2021-22 season ends with a loss to Northern Colorado in the College Basketball Invitational, the third-tier postseason college basketball tournament. Florida Atlantic ends the season 19-15, their fourth consecutive winning season under coach Dusty May.
Nov. 7, 2022: FAU opens the season against crosstown opponent Lynn University, a Division II program. The Owls win 81-46 in front of 1,314 home fans.
Nov. 11, 2022: In their second game of the season, the Owls go on the road and lose to Ole Miss 80-67. FAU won’t lose again for nearly two months.
Nov. 14, 2022: The Owls travel north to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators, the only college in the state to have ever won a national title in basketball. FAU wins 76-74, beginning the Owls’ 20-game winning streak.
Dec. 17, 2022: Florida Atlantic begins Conference USA play with a 79-53 home win over rival Florida International with 1,797 fans in the stands.
Jan. 5, 2023: Johnell Davis goes off for a season-high 36 points in a win over UAB. It’s the highest point total for an Owl this season.
Jan. 14, 2023: FAU beats North Texas in front of a sold-out crowd at the Owls’ Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. It’s their first sellout of the year.
Jan. 16, 2023: The Owls earn a spot in the AP poll for the first time in school history, ranking 24th nationally. That night, FAU beats Western Kentucky 76-62 for its 16th consecutive win.
Jan. 26, 2023: In front of another sold-out crowd, FAU beats Middle Tennessee State to clinch their 20th win of the year. The Owls had won 20 games in a season only one other time.
Jan. 30, 2023: FAU keeps rising in the AP poll, cracking the top 20 for the first time ever. FAU reaches its highest ranking of the season, No. 19.
Feb. 2, 2023: The Owls’ winning streak ends at 20 as Florida Atlantic drops a road game to UAB. FAU falls out of the AP poll four days later.
Feb. 25, 2023: On FAU’s Senior Day, the Owls clinch the Conference USA regular-season title. It is the first conference championship the program has won since winning the Sun Belt in 2011.
March 4, 2023: Florida Atlantic concludes its regular season with a 76-72 road win over Louisiana Tech, securing a 28-3 regular-season record. The Owls’ previous best regular-season record was a 21-9 record in the 2010-11 season.
March 11, 2023: The Owls add a Conference USA tournament trophy to their shelf, beating UAB to clinch the conference tournament. It is the second conference tournament championship in program history and FAU’s first since winning the Atlantic Sun conference in 2002. The tournament championship secures a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
March 12, 2023: On Selection Sunday, the Owls earn a No. 9 seed. It is only the second time FAU has earned a spot in March Madness. The Owls draw No. 8 Memphis, who are the favorite.
March 17, 2023: In just the second NCAA Tournament men’s basketball game in program history, FAU upsets Memphis on a last-second basket by Nick Boyd.
March 19, 2023: For a day, the Owls become a favorite. No. 16 seed Farleigh Dickinson, a small school in New Jersey, pulled off the upset of the tournament by beating No. 1 seed Purdue. It is just the second time a No. 16 seed has beat a No. 1. The Owls don’t care about the Cinderella story, winning by eight.
March 23, 2023: In the Sweet 16 for the first time ever, FAU faces No. 4 Tennessee, one of the top teams in the SEC, at New York’s Madison Square Garden. The Owls rally in the second half to beat the Volunteers and punch their ticket to the Elite Eight.
March 25, 2023: Kansas State couldn’t stand in FAU’s way either, falling to the Owls on last-minute free throws by Blanche Ely graduate Michael Forrest. FAU stuns the nation by making it to the program’s first Final Four.
