The alleged tell-all, titled “Melania,” is the “powerful and inspiring story of a woman who has defined personal excellence, overcome adversity, and carved her own path,” according to a description on her website, where readers can pre-order the tome.

Copies of the black-covered hardback book with “Melania” written in white sell for $40, while a signed copy goes for $75. Each of those versions include 48 pages of color photos.

A collector’s edition of “Melania,” on which the color scheme is reversed, costs $150. That version is also signed and promises bonus photographs and a digital collectible.

Melania Trump’s life has long been shrouded in mystery. According to her White House biography page, she was born on April 26, 1970 in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.

As Melania Knauss, she worked as a model in Europe, but became a household name after marrying real estate mogul Donald Trump in 2005 and taking his surname. She gave birth to her only child, Barron Trump, in 2006.

Melania Trump long claimed to have graduated from the University of Ljubljana with a degree in architecture, which has been proven false. She has also said she speaks five languages, which too has been called into question.

Rarely is the enigmatic 54-year-old fashionista seen alongside her husband on the campaign trail, where he’s making his third bid for the U.S. presidency.

Melania was also absent from her husband’s criminal trial in March, where a jury agreed he falsified New York business records to cover up a hush money payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels regarding an alleged affair he had while married to the former first lady.

When he was found liable in January for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll after she accused him of rape, Melania kept a low profile as well. She rarely sits down for interviews, and when she does, they typically reveal very little.

One of Melania’s most talked about comments came in the form of a fashion statement. In 2018, she was photographed wearing a jacket with “I really don’t care, do you?” written across the back, while visiting a migrant children detention center in Texas. That outfit, she later said, was to tell “the left-wing media” she couldn’t be rattled.

It’s unclear to what degree Melania Trump’s memoir might address her husband’s trials and tribulations or how they’ve impacted her life. A spokesperson told The Associated Press no information was available other than the online press release from Skyhorse Publishing.

An exact release date for the book hasn’t been announced, though pre-order information on the website says to allow 12-16 weeks for delivery.

Donald Trump donated to Kamala Harris’ A.G. campaign https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2024/07/22/donald-trump-donate-kamala-harris/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 14:08:27 +0000 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/?p=11641893&preview=true&preview_id=11641893 Donald Trump donated to the campaign of the woman he’ll likely run against to be the nation’s 47th president.

Online records managed by California’s Secretary of State indicate Trump gave $5,000 to Kamala Harris in 2011 when she ran to become California’s attorney general. He would later donate another $1,000 to help Harris keep that job she held from 2011 to 2017 before she became a senator.

Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump also gave $2,000 to Harris’s campaign.

Vice President Harris became the Democratic party’s likely nominee for president Sunday when President Joe Biden said he would not seek a second term. Pressure for Biden, 81, to drop out of the race came to a head in recent weeks after he performed poorly in a June debate with Trump, 78, who is now poised to become the oldest candidate on a presidential ballot. Biden endorsed Harris, 59, to take his place as the Democratic nominee.

Trump admitted to donating money to Democrats and Republicans running for political office when he campaigned for president in 2016.

“I gotta give to them,” he claimed. “Because when I want something, I get it. When I call, they kiss my a–.”

Trump starred on the reality TV show “Celebrity Apprentice” from 2008 to 2015. He also ran a real estate empire that paid $750 in taxes in 2016, according to the New York Times.

Despite donating to Harris’ campaigns in California, Trump referred to her as a “badly failing presidential candidate” in 2019 when she challenged Biden for the Democratic party’s nomination. The party will officially name a nominee next month during its convention in Chicago.

Former Fox News host Lou Dobbs dead at 78 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2024/07/18/lou-dobbs-dead-fox-news-host/ Thu, 18 Jul 2024 21:41:58 +0000 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/?p=11638581&preview=true&preview_id=11638581 Longtime conservative commentator Lou Dobbs has died at age 78, former President Donald Trump announced on social media Thursday.

“The Great Lou Dobbs has just passed away — A friend, and truly incredible journalist, reporter, and talent,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “He understood the world, and what was ‘happening,’ better than others.”

Trump praised Dobbs as “unique in so many ways” and sent his condolences to the TV personality’s wife, Debi, and the Dobbs family.

“He will be greatly missed!” Trump wrote.

A short time later, an Instagram page tied to Dobbs confirmed the broadcaster’s death.

“It’s with a heavy heart we announce the passing of ‘The Great Lou Dobbs,’” the message read, remembering him as a “patriot and a great American” and “a fighter till the very end.”

A cause of death was not reported.

The former president’s Truth Social post appeared to be the first announcement of the death of Dobbs, who spent more than 20 years at CNN and a decade at the Fox Business Network.

Dobbs was a loyal Trump supporter known to promote conspiracy theories. His tenure with the Fox family ended in 2021 when “Lou Dobbs Tonight” was canceled in the throes of two defamation lawsuits filed by voting technologies companies against Fox News, which also named Dobbs.

CNN sources indicated at the time the lawsuits from Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems, the latter of which settled with Fox for $787.5 million, weren’t solely to blame for Dobbs’ severance from the right-wing media operation.

Dobbs, a Texas native who attended Harvard University, was with CNN at the cable news channel’s inception in 1980.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award in 2005.

‘Joe the Plumber,’ who famously confronted Obama on the campaign trail, dead at 49 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2023/08/28/joe-the-plumber-who-famously-confronted-obama-on-the-campaign-trail-dead-at-49/ Mon, 28 Aug 2023 17:27:21 +0000 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/?p=9922343&preview=true&preview_id=9922343 By Brian Niemietz | New York Daily News (TNS)

Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as political activist “Joe the Plumber,” is dead at 49.

Wurzelbacher gained prominence in 2008 when he met then-candidate Barack Obama in Ohio during the future president’s 2008 presidential campaign. The Republican activist told Obama he was interested in opening a plumbing business and asked how the Democratic candidate’s tax plan would impact that venture. Wurzelbacher’s on-camera questions, along with his everyman demeanor, earned him the Joe the Plumber moniker.

He built that persona into a brand that netted a book deal and led to a flirtation with the country music business, according to Politico. Wurzelbacher ran for office in 2012 but was soundly defeated by Democrat Marcy Kaptur in the race to represent Ohio’s ninth congressional district.

One thing he wasn’t was a licensed plumber, according to the Columbia Dispatch, which reported “Joe the Plumber” never completed an apprenticeship, nor was he a member of Local 50 of the United Association of Plumbers. That union backed Obama in 2008.

In 2016, Wurzelbacher expressed enthusiasm over Donald Trump’s White House candidacy.

“He’s a winner. He’s made billions,” he told Reuters “He’s dated beautiful women. His wife is a model. That’s not to sniff at.”

Wurzelbacher said Trump was running in an era of when many people are afraid to speak their minds.

“They are afraid of being labeled a racist or a homophobe,” he lamented.

Wurzelbacher married in 2011 and had three children with his wife Katie, according to a fundraising page set up in 2022 after his family said he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His death was confirmed on that page Sunday.

“Joe passed away earlier this morning and entered our Lord’s heavenly home,” that message said. “Joe had been too sick/in too much pain to get out of bed lately and his goal was to get Katie and their kids moved to her hometown surrounded by family.”

Wurzelbacher also had an adult son from a previous relationship, according to Reuters.

WHO: Artificial sweeteners have no weight-loss benefit, may raise health risks https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2023/05/16/who-artificial-sweeteners-have-no-weight-loss-benefit-may-raise-health-risks/ Tue, 16 May 2023 17:53:35 +0000 https://www.sun-sentinel.com/?p=9752241&preview=true&preview_id=9752241 Brian Niemietz | New York Daily News

The World Health Organization has come out against the use of non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) as a means to control weight or limit noncommunicable sickness.

“The recommendation is based on the findings of a systematic review of the available evidence which suggests that use of NSS does not confer any long-term benefit in reducing body fat in adults or children,” WHO said in a statement Monday.

That review also determined long-term use of NSS could contribute to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and serious illness in adults.

“Replacing free sugars with NSS does not help with weight control in the long term,” WHO Director for Nutrition and Food Safety Francesco Branca said in a statement. “NSS are not essential dietary factors and have no nutritional value.”

Branca suggests people reduce consuming sweets altogether, starting at an early age.

Aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin, sucralose and stevia are among the additives addressed in WHO’s review. Most of those substitutes are associated with brand names like Sweet’N Low, Equal and Splenda. They’ve all been approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

Sugar alcohols containing calories, such as polyols, aren’t considered NSS.

WHO — a United Nations agency headquartered in Switzerland — called for adults and children to make free sugars, including glucose, fructose and table sugar, less than 10% of their total energy intake in 2015.

“We have solid evidence that keeping intake of free sugars to less than 10% of total energy intake reduces the risk of overweight, obesity and tooth decay,” Branca said following that report.

Monday’s recommendation to reduce NSS consumption does not apply to people with diabetes, nor does it pertain to medication. WHO’s findings do not pertain to personal care products including toothpaste and skin care goods either. The review included more than 320 studies.

The International Sweeteners Association suggests taking WHO’s “conditional finding” with a grain of salt.

“In light of the global effort to address the burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including dental diseases which are the most prevalent NCD globally, and other societal challenges such as the global obesity crisis, the ISA believes it is a disservice to public health to not recognize low/no calorie sweeteners’ role in reducing sugar and calorie intake and aiding in weight control,” that organization said Monday.

The ISA claims approved low and no-calorie sweeteners “have a role to play in the fight against obesity,” when used in place of sugar and “are an essential tool in helping food and drink companies reformulate products, to reduce the amount of sugar and calories contained.”

A Broward County court filing requires the “Knife Talk” singer, born Aubrey Drake Graham, to check in online Feb. 24.

Michael Boatwright, Dedrick Williams and Trayvon Newsome are on trial for the 2018 shooting of XXXTentacion (born Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy) in his car as it was leaving a Florida motorsports store. XXXTentacion — whose songs include “Revenge” and “Everybody Dies in Their Nightmares” — was 20 years old.

XXXTentacion accused Drake of copying parts of his 2015 song “Look at Me!” in his 2017 song “KMT” after fans online compared the tunes. Drake denied he mimicked XXXTentacion.

A 26-year-old suspect who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in August testified against the three defendants last week, CBS News reports.

TMZ reported Drake’s lawyers successfully argued against their client being deposed Tuesday, claiming the 36-year-old Canadian pop-star had no relevant information about XXXTentacion’s killing. A defense attorney told the court XXXTentacion posted “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi,” referring to Drake. The victim claimed his Instagram account was hacked. Prosecutors argued the defense is trying to establish reasonable doubt in the case, NBC News in South Florida reported.

Hopefully, jurors don’t get a repeat of Drake’s recent Barstool Sports interview, where his 5-year-old son Adonis stole the show by talking about his “funny dad” who “does a lot of jokes.”

“I’m not even the biggest Drake fan, but this was hilarious,” one YouTube commenter wrote.

Waiting nine more months for “My Name is Barbra” should be no problem for fans who read in 2015 on Babs’ website that a book was on the way, only to be left in the dark.

The 80-year-old Brooklyn native has long-hinted at a memoir. In 2009, Streisand told the Associated Press she’d written chapters about her life by hand, but wasn’t sure she could commit to a book project.

“Do I really want to relive my life?” she asked. “I’m not sure.”

During a 2021 visit to “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Streisand” said she’d penned more than 800 pages on her experiences, but gave few specifics.

Despite selling more than 150 million albums and appearing in more than a dozen hit films, Streisand’s life has been anything but an open book.

In 2003, she sued a photographer for invasion of privacy after he photographed her Malibu home. Her unsuccessful lawsuit drew more attention to the photo she was attempting to suppress. That unintentional cause-and-effect came to be known as “The Streisand Effect.”

The EGOT winner has been married to actor James Brolin for 25 years. Her first husband was actor Elliott Gould. Streisand’s list of famous associates included former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who Streisand told “The Tonight Show” encouraged her to write a memoir in the 1980s.

There’s no word on what Streisand is being paid for her tome. It’s being published by Penguin Random House.

“My Name is Barbra” was also the name of her Grammy-winning 1965 album, which included the singles “Why Did I Choose You?” and “My Man.”

The 79-year-old glam-rock star was convicted in 2015 for crimes against three girls in the 1970s. His victims were 10, 12 and 13 years old. He served half his 16-year sentence and will be “closely monitored by the police and Probation Service” the U.K.s Ministry of Justice said.

Gary Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, arrives at Southwark Crown Court on February 5, 2015 in London, England.

Glitter, born Paul Francis Gadd, is best known in the U.S. for the stadium anthem “Rock & Roll Part 2,” which was featured in the 2019 film “Joker.” He had several hits overseas.

In 1999, Glitter was sentenced to four months in a British prison for downloading child pornography. After serving his time, the disgraced musician fled the country, spending time in Spain, Cuba, Cambodia and Vietnam, from which he was deported after serving a nearly three year sentence for 2005 sex crimes involving two young girls. Glitter maintains he did nothing wrong.

“He looked like a father figure — I didn’t expect that he would do these things, these terrible things,” one of his Vietnamese victims told the BBC in 2015. “Please do something so he doesn’t commit these crimes again,”

His victims in Vietnam were 11 and 12.

One woman Glitter is accused of harming when she was a girl told The Telegraph she never recovered from her experience with the singer.

“I feel as if I’ve been let down by the justice system and that I’ve been attacked by Glitter again,” she said of his release.

It isn’t uncommon for sex offenders in England to serve half their sentence at home on probation, according to the Associated Press.

A lawyer representing another of Glitter’s victims told the Guardian the singer’s early release is an injustice that “devalues” the victim’s suffering.

“The abuse, including repeated rapes which our client suffered from the age of 12, have left her with a life sentence,” said attorney Richard Scorer.

The arrest leading to Glitter’s recent incarceration stemmed from 2012’s Operation Yewtree, which focused largely on the alleged misdeeds of British television host Jimmy Savile, who died in 2011. Investigators reportedly believe he may have preyed on roughly 500 young people, the Guardian said. He was never convicted of a sex crime.

Saville defended Glitter in a 2009 interview.

“Whether it was right or wrong is, of course, it’s up to him as a person,” he said of the singer’s penchant for child pornography.
