A four-year survey conducted by the Center for Disease Control found that 7.6% of Americans aged 12 or older had experienced moderate or severe symptoms of depression in the previous two weeks. While there is not much data supporting a connection between the holidays and a spike in depression, some may find this time of year stressful due to social pressure or being overwhelmed by feelings of loneliness.
No matter what their age or what time of year, Broward residents experiencing depression, anxiety or behavioral issues can dial 2-1-1 for support and resources to cope.
People contact the 2-1-1 INFOLine for many different issues from feeling anxious or sad to experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, disruptive behaviors, eating disorders or substance abuse are also reasons some reach out to the hotline.
Established in 1995, the 24-hour Behavioral Health INFOLine provides free, confidential emotional support, crisis intervention, information and referrals to mental health services, substance abuse prevention and treatment programs, and other behavioral health services. Resources are also available at 211-broward.org
Children’s Services Council of Broward County (CSC) is one of several local organization funding the hotline. The CSC provides leadership, coordination and funding for services for and on behalf of children. As part of their efforts to improve the lives of children, they provide financial support to 2-1-1 Broward for the general helpline, the Children with Special Needs Hotline and the Behavioral Health INFOLine.
The Children’s Services Council of Broward County provide the leadership, advocacy and resources necessary to enhance children’s lives and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.
