UPDATED:

Florida politicians across the political spectrum condemned what one called “an assassination attempt” on former President Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Trump’s campaign says he is “fine” after being whisked off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania after gunshots rang through the crowd.

Florida lawmakers took to the social media platform X to express their well wishes for Trump and condemn any violence related to politics.

Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott posted on the social media platform X, “This was clearly an assassination attempt on President Trump. I’m glad he seems okay, and I am praying for him and all who were at the rally. There is ZERO tolerance for violence. I hope this monster is already caught and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”:

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, rumored to be on Trump’s short list for his vice presidential nominee, posted, “Praying for President Trump and all those attending the rally in Pennsylvania today” and also “God protected President Trump.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who challenged Trump for the GOP nomination before ending his presidential campaign, posted, “@CaseyDeSantis and I are praying for Donald Trump and his family.”

Rep. Darren Soto, another Central Florida Democratic Congressman, posted, “We wish Fmr President Trump a quick recovery. We also thank law enforcement for their rapid response. We will be monitoring the situation over the next few days as more information comes to light. In our democracy, violence is never the answer.”

Democratic State Rep. Anna Eskamani, who represents the Orlando area in Tallahassee, posted, “Political violence is wrong and never the answer. We should all be committed to community safety regardless of politics.”

In South Florida, Democratic State Sen. Shevrin Jones, whose district includes Miami Gardens, posted, “It’s one thing to have political differences; it’s another to try to bring harm to someone because they have a different viewpoint. Violence is never the answer, not today, not ever!”

State Sen. Lauren Book, another Democrat whose district includes western Broward County, posted, “Violence has no place in our democracy. Regardless of who you support or what you believe, we must resolve our differences at the ballot box — never through violent attacks. Praying for the former president.”

Democratic State Sen. Lori Berman, whose district includes Delray Beach and Boynton Beach, posted, in part: “I condemn, in the strongest terms, the cowardly acts of political violence committed against Donald Trump tonight. Such violent acts have no place in our society and are on attack on the democratic principles we hold dear.”
