What? The U.S. wants a King? Seriously?

Just dump the Rule of Law. It’s no longer relevant.

Review our history textbooks and remove the phrases “No Man is Above the Law” and “A government of laws, not of men,” because neither is true any more.

How very sad that six justices of the Supreme Court, a number of members of Congress and leaders of the Republican Party want to live in a dictatorship.

I am glad that my brothers, who fought in World War II, are no longer alive to see the U.S. considering an all-powerful dictator.

I’m also happy to be retired from 35 years of teaching American History, so I won’t have to explain to my students that “government of the people” is now being abandoned.

In the meantime, we can sit and reminisce about living in a democracy or we can do something. What can we do? We can vote for candidates who believe that “We the People” should run the country.

The true meaning of MAGA

Among the many lies told in closeup by Donald Trump during his debate with President Biden was Trump’s flat-out denial that he had had sex with adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Our would-be imperial President defied the riveting, if raunchy, testimony — contrary of Daniels herself and the supporting statements of longtime Trump “fixer” Michael Cohen and National Enquirer Publisher David Pecker during the New York City trial where a jury found Trump guilty of 34 felonies.

If you believe that Trump did not have sex with Daniels while his third wife was home with their newborn son, then you have no choice but to believe that Trump falsified New York business records to steer $134,000 to Daniels to keep her from saying something publicly about something that never happened.

MAGA. That’s short for Make America Gullible Again.

Trump with no limits

The Supreme Court, the highest court in our country, has taken us back to the time of the Revolutionary War when we were ruled by a King.

That’s exactly what will happen — perish the thought — if Donald Trump is elected president in November. He will rule without peril and will do whatever he wants, without fear of being punished.

What have we become?

Fred Brown, Boynton Beach

He’s not a dictator

The Supreme Court ruling on partial presidential immunity is a ruling for the ages, helping our sitting president and all succeeding presidents, perhaps for centuries to come.

Heaven forbid that it also gives some immunity from prosecution to former President Trump. With that, the court threw a big wrench into all the plans to drag Trump from one bogus trial to another.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortes sprang into action, saying she wanted to impeach some justices. Someone should remind her that it’s a Republican House and she’s in the minority. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called it “a sad day for America.” No, Chuck, it’s a sad day when someone in your position and all your phony cronies denigrate the high court. You have to face Trump in a free and fair election now.

Please, no more contrived hand-wringing and pearl-clutching about the Trump dictatorship. As Trump has said, his revenge will be his success. He’ll seal the border, undoing Biden’s insanity. He’ll drill for oil, bringing gas prices down and our economy up.

He’ll get our hostages home while putting out fires abroad. He’s not a dictator, but a president — and we haven’t had one for years.
