FIRST TEAM
Sofia Balistreri, 800, Benjamin sophomore: Set school records in both the 800 (2:12.89) and the 4×400 relay (3.59.95); placed second at state, trimming seven seconds off her personal-best time; career highlight is celebrating with her teammates crossing the finish line, finishing third after running anchor leg in the 4×400, setting the school record; also plays soccer.
Maxine Dalton, Long jump/Triple jump, Benjamin sophomore: Placed fifth at the Class 1A state meet in both the long jump and the triple jump; had PRs in the long jump (17-5.5) and triple jump (36-7.5); won the regional title in the long jump; most proud of her improvement in jumping.
Julia De Gruttola Aere, 100 hurdles, American Heritage-Delray junior: Team captain and former competitive gymnast set seven school records, including the 100 hurdles (14.54), 200 (25.16), shot put (10.57m), and javelin (22.01m); also holds the record for heptathlon (4,447 points), set at New Balance Indoor nationals.
Kori Haggard, Shot put/discus, Benjamin senior: The University of Memphis commit said her career highlight was seeing her team and family in the bleachers as, on her last discus throw, she went from ninth to second, a 6-meter improvement on her school record (125 feet); battled through a late-season shoulder injury and holds school records in shot, discus and javelin; threw 35.63 feet in shot.
Madelyn Horner, Javelin, Cardinal Newman freshman: All-County dual-sport athlete in track and softball; finished second at state with a throw of 121.65 feet; set school record of 122.24 in placing third at regionals; won two track meets in her first year of throwing javelin; most proud of winning her track meet at King’s Academy and then going to Olympic Heights and helping her softball team win.
Jordan Johnson, 400, Pahokee freshman: Team MVP finished third at state in the 400-meter dash (57.08), also ran 200 (25.81), 800 (2:17.70), and was on the school-record setting 4×400 relay (3:56.04); also a cheerleader.
Akari Marshall, 100/200, Oxbridge Academy junior: School-record holder in the 100 (11.86), and 200 (24.24); also ran the 400 (57.50); at state meet finished third in the 100, second in the 200, and fifth in the 400 to help girls team to a county-best fifth at state; overcame a hip injury in midseason; district and regional champion in 100 and regional champion in 200; second in both events at county meet.
Jailyn Milord, 400, FAU High junior: Won county, district, and regional championships in the 400 and finished 8th at state in the 200; finished seventh in the 100 and fourth in the 400 at Class 2A state meet with a new PR of 54.63 (400); also ran 24.42 (200), 12.04 (100), which broke her own school record.
Jamaria Richardson, 400, Pahokee freshman: Won the coach’s award this season for the Blue Devils; took second at state in the 400 (56.60); also ran 100 (12.33), was a member of 4×400 team (second), 4×100 (fourth) and went 16-3.75 in the long jump.
Sam Woods, 400 hurdles, Benjamin junior: Hoped to break 1:06 in 400 hurdles at the state meet and said she was overjoyed to shave three seconds off her PR (1:05.84) to place seventh; also, was on school-record-setting 4×400 relay (3:59.95) which finished third at state; said going into the race they wanted to break 4 minutes.
Macy Croteau, Pole vault, King’s Academy senior: School-record holder in the pole vault (9-6.5); was fifth at the county meet; won districts and was fourth at the regional meet; finished first or second in nine competitions this season; also a cheerleader.
Avery Fronrath, 1,600/3,200, King’s Academy senior: Team captain and UF signee was third in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Palm Beach County meet and fifth in the 400 hurdles; finished eighth at state in 1,600 and has been an all-county selection all four years in both sports; was eighth at state in Class 2A state meet in cross country.
Brielle George, High jump, King’s Academy junior: She finished sixth in the Class 2A state meet (5-4) and was on the seventh place 4×400 relay team; she also competed in the 100, javelin and all three relay teams; won districts and regionals in high jump; also won coach’s award for track; career highlight was winning regionals.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Bayardo Sinclair, Oxbridge Academy: Despite competing at the Class 1A state championships with just two athletes, the ThunderWolves finished fifth overall; Sinclair said his proudest moment was watching his athletes overcome injuries late in the season. “They showed grit and a commitment to their craft, and it paid off…anything is possible with a solid training plan, committed athletes, and the will of a champion.”
