FIRST TEAM
Kyara Belfort, 200, Calvary Christian freshman: Team MVP is the school-record holder in the 100 (12.10), 200 (25.05), and the 4×100, 4×200, and 4×400 relays; helped the Eagles girls team win the team’s first district and regional championships.
Claire Chanon, 800/1,600, Westminster Academy eighth grader: School-record holder in 1,600 (5:08.50) rebounded from an early-season injury to reach the 1A state meet for a second straight year; finished 8th with a season-best of 5:21; ran a PR (2:25) for her leg of the 4×800 relay; ran 1,600 PR (5:08.50) at the 2023 state meet; 4×800 team also ranked 15th with a time of 10:14; and finished seventh at last year’s state meet in 1,600.
Rebekah Christie, 100, Pompano Beach junior: School 100-meter record holder (11.98), ran personal-best 200 (25.06); School’s female sprinter of the year and most outstanding female athlete (2022-2024); state medalist in both 100m and 4×100 relay; All-American in the 4×100; national qualifier for the 100, 200, 4×100, and 4×400 relays; finished 8th in 100 at state; 4.8 GPA.
Sophia Elmer, High jump, Westminster Academy junior: Team captain and former competitive gymnast for 12 years; cleared 5 feet in her first year of competing in high jump and finished 13th at 1A state meet; won districts in high jump and helped 4×100 relay top Chaminade-Madonna to win district title.
Idorenyin Essiet, 100 hurdles, Pompano Beach sophomore: Named All-American and qualified for Class 2A state meet in all four events – 100 hurdles (14.27), 4×100 relay (47.86), 4×400 (4:05.99); school record-holder for triple jump (35-1 ¾); finished 11th at state for long jump, 15th for the 100 hurdles, 8th in the 4×100 and 9th for 4×400.
Adrianna Harris, Shot put/discus, Coral Springs Charter junior: Qualified for state in her first year of track in shot (33-0 ¼); and discus (100-1), finishing 15th and 12th respectively; won district titles in both events and was second in both at regionals; also plays basketball.
Victoria Hickox Almengor, 400, Cardinal Gibbons senior: School’s scholar-athlete award winner; placed 12th at 2A state meet in the 400 (58.93) and fifth in the 4×400 (3:58.08); also ran 100 (12.89), and 4×100 (48.85); proud of substantial improvements this year enabling her to qualify for state in three events for the first time.
Brooke Hooper, 1,600/3,200, Pine Crest senior: The team captain and FSU commit recovered from an early-season injury and placed third at the 2A state meet in the 1,600 (5:01.13); won 2023 state title in 1,600; career-best times in the 1,600 (4:56.86) and 3,200 (10:35.78); also excelled in cross country with PR (18:11.50).
Hannah Manger, Pole vault, Coral Springs Charter senior: School-record holder in the pole vault (7-10 ½); most proud of setting record after doing the event for two years.
Ella Munoz, Long jump/triple jump, North Broward Prep sophomore: Swept four events at district, winning long jump, triple jump and 400 hurdles with a personal best (1:08.47), and was a member of the 4×100 relay (47.71); also ran 200 (27.21); had PRs and school records in long jump (17-10 ¼) and triple jump (37-3 ¼); school-record holder in 4×100; also plays soccer.
Janiyah Smith, Shot put, Somerset Prep senior: District and regional champion finished 12th at state with a school record throw of 37-1 ¾; also competed in the discus (33-2); finished either first or second in nine other meets this season in the shot put; was the first athlete to qualify for state from her school; East Georgia State College commit for basketball.
Morgan Smith, Triple jump, Calvary Christian senior: The FAMU commit is a two-time most outstanding player and 2024 Eagle Award winner; placed 5th at Class 2A state championship in triple jump; district and regional champion in triple jump; third in regional for long jump; has best jumps of 37-9 1/4 in triple jump and 17-2 ¼ in long jump; overcame strained hip flexor and ankle sprain to reach state.
Rowan Sundevall, Javelin, Pine Crest sophomore: Seventh at state as a freshman in the javelin (111-7) and improved to third at state (119-3) this year; has personal bests of 122-11 (javelin), 112-8 (discus), both school records; All-American for javelin; has a PR of 118-4 (hammer throw); plays basketball and volleyball.
Kaiden O’Neill, 400 hurdles, North Broward Prep freshman: First-year track athlete placed 12th at the state meet in 400 hurdles (1:06.73), setting a school record; main sport is soccer; also ran 100, 100 hurdles, 400, high jump, javelin and triple jump.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Paul Baur, Pine Crest: Led the Panthers to their first top-10 finish at state since 2019 and had all state qualifiers make the podium, including becoming the first school to put three girls from the same team in the top 8 in the javelin. “I was most proud of helping guide Brooke Hooper through a season-ending injury during the cross country season, back to challenge for the 1,600-meter state title…all our girls that qualified for the state came home with medals. They handled the pressure well, took risks, and overcame the odds to stand on the podium.”
