Linda Sluchak OBITUARY

Linda Sluchak OBITUARY

Linda Kusens Sluchak, 83, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, just short of her 84th birthday following a lengthy health battle.

Born September 26, 1940 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was adopted at an early age and was one of three children to Charles and Lois Kusens. The family moved to Miami Beach, FL during her teenage years. She was an active participant in the Miami Beach High School band, playing the Clarinet. She also penned her graduating class’ 50th reunion song, both the lyrics and music, – “Just for a Moment”.

She attended the University of Florida on a clarinet scholarship for several years. After returning to Miami, she met her husband, Dr. Max Sluchak at a dance hosted by the local Temple. They stayed in contact during his first year of medical school, writing letters back and forth. They married in June 1961, one year later after his first year of medical school.

Linda was loved and admired by everyone she met. She enjoyed the musical arts, and would often perform for her family, friends, neighbors, at nursing homes, and VA hospitals in her community; both in NC and South FL. Her instrument of choice, the piano, was adopted later in life after many successful years playing the clarinet. She loved to learn new music, create her own melodies, and short stories.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lois Kusens, and sister Diane Rauch. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Max Sluchak of Plantation, FL; her brother Bruce Kusens and his wife Sylvia of Miami Beach, FL; her daughters; Liza Elyakim and her husband, Ron, of Hollywood, FL; Debbie Johnson and her husband, Rusty of Jensen Beach, FL; and Melanie Lepp of Murfreesboro, TN; and her grandchildren, Andy, Brandon, Chelsea, Katie, and Chad.

Graveside services will be held at Menorah Gardens & Funeral Chapels, 21100 West Griffin Road, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332 at 10:00 am on Sunday August 4th, 2024; Rabbi Chaim Feldman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Veterans Hospital.
