Law enforcement removed a deteriorated car from a Plantation canal on Sunday and said they found the body of a missing man inside.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office dive team and staff from the Broward Medical Examiner’s Office were on the scene at 10151 SW First St. on Sunday afternoon.

Detective Robert Rettig of Plantation Police said the department had been searching for the man “for years.” He did not know precisely how long the department had been looking for him and he had no further information on the make or model of the vehicle.

Rettig said he had received information that a second car had been pulled out of the water in Plantation on Sunday but said he had no further details.
